Diamond is actually an electrical insulator. As a result of boron doping diamond becomes electrical
conductive and can be used as electrode with a big electrochemical window. Because of this
synthesis of substances with high oxidation potential is possible without side reactions.
Besides applications in synthesis, these electrodes are also used for water treatment. As a
result of the big electrochemical window OH-radicals can be generated directly in water.
These radicals oxidize organic waste (Advanced oxidation process) to CO2. With this
technology waste water can be treated without addition of chemicals and used in
circulation systems for example.
